Do cell phone batteries die faster when you're out of your network coverage?

cell phone batteries: Do cell phone batteries die faster when you're out of your network coverage? I have sprint, but at my mothers house sprint is not available. however it seems that my cell phone battery does ALOT faster when i am at her house. Could it be that my phone is working harder to find a signal and thats why the battery does not last long?

  • No. Cell phone batteries are not related with network coverage as I had experienced many times of out of the network coverage but my cell phone battery still full. I think that the cell phone batteries will die faster if you always or keep using it without rest
  • The radio runs more when it is searching for a signal, so the battery does drain faster when you are out of network coverage
  • If you are in a low coverage area or just outside coverage yes the battery will drain faster since your phone is constantly looking for a signal to latch on to. This is also why the battery life estimates on most phones are so much higher than what we get in real use. A factory test is done under ideal conditions, the real world is not ideal
